  • Knitting my first hat

I have a small head.  Adult hats swim on me, and those adjustable baseball hats just look funny when they’re made to be small enough to stay on my head properly.  According to the measureents, my size is child’s medium (according to Land’s End).

Donna7  showed hats she’s made, and that gave me the idea to learn to knit hats for myself and my grandkids. I searched the internet and found a few hat patterns that seemed easy enough, bought some yarn and long knitting needles, and started in.  My grandmother taught me to knit when I was a little girl, but the only garment I’ve ever made till now has been a scarf.  I have crocheted lots of things, though.

I’m not very fast, I made lots of mistakes, and it took me over a week to make one.  But it’s a HAT, and it fits me, which means it will fit at least one grandson (his size baseball cap fits me perfectly).  So now to make more:)

Why post this?  Because if I can do it, so can you.  The internet, YouTube especially, is full of videos on how to knit and crochet.  It’s where I looked to learn how to cast on stitches, how to decrease, and how to bind off (close off the last row), and especially, how to purl.  I never could figure that out till watching YouTube videos.

Try it, you might like it, and like me, find it to be a bit of a stress-reliever.

    Love to all,
    Gerrie

  • Hmmm… a new use for YouTube besides enjoyment of music, and of good laughs, and of spiritual nourishment . . . . add to that furthering one’s education and skills! Thanks for the tip-off! How’s Gerrie? Have a blessed Christmas, my friend. {{HUGS}}Carolyn

  • Thanks. I didn’t know you could use UTube for that. I’ll be checking that out for sure. A few weeks ago I started to crochet a scarf. It’s been taken apart three times and I still can’t seem to do it right. I count the stitches and it still comes out all crooked. So maybe Utube is my help in waiting. How have you been lately besides real busy?? Have a great Sunday!!!

  • My mom is a fabulous knitter. I think my sister knits, too. But knitting is one of those things that I’m not picking up on from my mom — right up there with playing bridge.

  • Knitting is a cool way to wear some good hats and scarves….Glad you are working at that!

    Blessings to you….Mike

  • I have been thinking about this for ome time now that I want to learn how to knit stuff! That is awesome that you can learn it off of Youtube! Kudos to you for taking the bull by the horns…lol
