  • New Baby Granddaughter

Rejoice with us, we have another new baby in the family!  Little Mila (pronounced Mee-la) Desi was born today June 29th at 6:55 am, and she weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces!  And she was only 4 days overdue:)

My daughter-in-law had contractions all day yesterday and of course all night, too.  They went to the hospital yesterday afternoon but got sent home; they went again around 11 pm last night and stayed.  She’s a real trooper, stayed very calm the whole time, and just relaxed as much as she could.  They gave her something for the pain and later an epidural and I’m really glad because then she could relax and sleep a little.  She was SO tired after the birth!

And I’m so honored she let me stay in the room with her and daddy (my youngest son) when she gave birth.  The nurse-midwife said she was very impressed with how well she did!

She and baby were moved to another room and after that she slept I’m sure.  Baby is a sweetie and is easily soothed, even though she cried when they were poking and prodding her and the lights were so bright!

Of course I was up all night too and came home and slept.  Im still tired but don’t want to get my days and nights mixed up because tomorrow this grandma has to go to work! (I get to teach the high school  deaf kids for 5 weeks of summer school.)

As I “gain” a new grandchild, I “lose” another:  my son and his wife and 6-month old baby left last Tuesday to relocate to the island of Cyprus, in the Mediterranean Sea south of Turkey.  Monday night I went to visit with them and we went out to a nice dinner together.  I’ll miss little Calvin, he was just starting to know me and I could sing him to sleep — but I’m very happy for his other grandparents to have him by them, too, that’s important.  Calvin will grow up bilingual, learning both English and Greek.

So now there are 5.  First granddaughter will be 10 years old this July, then there are the two 7-year olds (one is Mila’s older brother), and little 6-month old Calvin, and now Mila.  I highly recommend being a grandmother:)

    Love to all,
    Gerrie

  • Congratulations to you. How exciting that must be. I’d wish you a great week, but I think the Lord already took care of that. God bless

  • Oh, Gerrie, I’m SO happy for you! I just can’t wait to have a grandbaby. And being the mother of two boys, I harbor a secret wish for a little granddaughter one day.
I know you’re a dear grandmother to those little ones. I’m sorry your son and his family are going so far away, but pray that our good Father will bless them and keep them, and help you as you miss them.
We want to see photos soon of those little ones!

  • CONGRATS! I would love to be a grandma but my daughter doesn’t want any children so until Cody gets married I will have to be happy with grandpuppies.

I love the name and I’m looking forward to seeing pics of Mila real soon.

    Love ya, Darlena

  • OMG how blessed you are! make him a tape! of you singing. make him some puppet videos? One of my friends did that.

Congrats on your NEW grandchild! how amazing it all is.

  • Wonderful news, Gerrie. How great it was that you were present — what an honor! I’m sorry about your son moving away, I know that’s got to hurt. Also, best of luck with the deaf summer school. You are so talented.

  • Congratulations, Gerrie!  I’m so glad you got to be present when little Mila was born–there’s not much more special than that.  And she’ll keep you busy–which you’ll need now that Calvin and his parents are going so far away.  But to grow up bilingual and multicultural…what an opportunity!  My grandson, Andrew, and I stay very close via modern technology; thank God for webcams.

What a full life you have!

  • How fun!!!  A big congratulations to you sister!!!  Enjoy!

  • Congrats Gerrie… ! Enjoy them, they grow up toooooo fast!

    Have a great week!

    Phil

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

  • Oh Gerrie, I ‘m so happy for you, dear sister! PTL! – a safe delivery of Mila… & how very special to be in the room with the family when she was born! Isn’t that an awesome thing to observe? I had the privilege once of being with a dear friend when her son was born, and I was just awed and overcome with the miracle of birth in a way that I wasn’t able to appreciate when our two sons were born . . . after all, it is hard work, right! Maybe you can visit in Cyprus every now and then… and keep up the webcam communication, too! PTL for the many wonderful opportunities to communicate AV these days! Sounds like you are really keeping busy! I am finally almost over my ailments (still some cough, but that’s ok). Love you bunches… Carolyn (Praying for you just now, too.)

  • Praise God for your new grandchild, sorry you “lose the other” but that is temporary.
